Edgar Allan Poe is a wonderful writer. He is best known for his hair-raising stories. His writing style is unique in that he uses subtle details to add suspense to his stories. He also uses obscure details to help his audience understand lingering questions they may have once they finish his stories. A perfect example of his famous writing style is "The Cask of Amontillado". Throughout the story there are four important details that help the reader understand that Fortunato's murder was not perfect revenge. The first important detail he comes across concerns his audience and how he addresses them. Montresor manifests a tone of regret in his writings. He shows a slight amount of enmity, but also recognizes that revenge is not something others would see in his character. He states: "I had suffered Fortunato's thousand wounds... I swore revenge."
