In today's news and media it seems that the topic of homosexuality and its acceptable or unacceptable morality is raised every day. Many people believe that homosexuality is a problem and that ceremonies such as gay marriage should not be allowed. But what is it that makes homosexuality considered wrong? Critics argue that homosexuality goes against the Bible – the word of God – and is immoral. The question of homosexuality, however, is further explored when considering the topic of sexual ethics; homosexuality is not the only aspect of sexual ethics but also what is good and what is the purpose of sex and taboo situations such as incest, rape, premarital sex, monogamy and polygamy. Two philosophers, John Corvino and Alexander Pruss, discuss their views on the issue of sexual ethics and express their opinions in relation to the above issues, particularly when discussing the purpose of sex. By focusing on the nature of Pruss's love argument, more specifically that "illusions of sex" are not what makes sex good and how same-sex relationships are not morally permissible, one will build arguments against the admissibility of various sexual activities. Sexual ethics, otherwise known as sexual morality, involves issues revolving around human sexuality and sexual behaviors. Alexander Pruss discusses sexual ethics in the form of the importance of love and the forms it takes. According to Pruss, “there are at least three aspects intertwined in all forms of love: appreciation, benevolence, and the desire for union (“From Love to Union as One Body” 17).” Looking at the three forms of love, it can be argued that everyone needs all three aspects to achieve and feel true love. However, of the three,… middle of the paper… are those who seek pleasure while avoiding the true goodness of sex. Unfortunately, homosexuality is also considered morally unacceptable as it goes against the Old Testament where God had deemed it inappropriate as it was contrary to his reproduction plans. It is important to remember that sexual intercourse, when two beings become one flesh and one body that functions together, is the most important form of love as it not only satisfies one's emotional and physical needs but satisfies the desire that yearns for romantic love .
