There are many types of drug prevention programs in the United States, and many of them focus on school-age children. At the basis of this focus is the belief that this is the part of society that can be most influenced in the education and prevention of drug use. According to some surveys conducted in the United States, many school-age children consider drugs to be a major problem in the United States. Most parents, however, are unaware of current drug trends, and many do not talk about them with their children. In this report I will discuss some of the drug prevention programs currently in place and examine one of the drug prevention programs that has been successful in the past. During the 1990s there were numerous drug campaigns that were saturated by the media. The most effective of these campaigns was “Just Say No”. It was a simple concept, and studies showed that it reduced the rate of drug use among school-aged children at that time. There is no program in place in today's society that is disseminated at this level through the media. The reason for this is partly due to numerous budget cuts across the United States and worsening social conditions. . But these programs vary widely, from single assemblies to multi-week courses (Glazer p.657).” One of the most popular school programs is DARE, known as drug abuse resistance education. This program uses uniformed police officers to teach how to say “No” to drugs. One of the problems with this program is that it leads to the perception that drugs are a legal issue, rather than a problem in...... middle of paper ...... there are many different religions in the world, with many beliefs different, yet they share many of the same core values ​​that the United States as a whole seems to have forgotten. I also believe that the faith-based program's focus on all the problems of drug users and help in correcting them is a great start in the fight against drugs. As with many of the problems we face in our society, there will be no quick fix to the drug problems we face.
