Describe and account for the progress of the Reformation in Germany up to c. 1535 AD. The Reformation in Germany, which had a great impact on world history, was started by Martin Luther when, in search of his own personal salvation, he became disillusioned with the Roman Catholic Church and began to speak openly about his beliefs. This essay will describe and explain the progress of the Reformation in Germany up to c. 1535 AD describing Luther's life up to 1517, the conflict that followed his Ninety-Five Theses, and the controversies of 1518-1520. Luther's trial before the Diet of Worms and the support of Protestant princes will also be described. Furthermore, Luther's Bible will be described, which contributed greatly to the spread of the German Reformation. This essay will help you understand the importance and lasting effect of the Reformation in Germany. Martin Luther was a German theologian whose writings spurred the start of the Reformation in Germany. He was born to Hans and Margarete Luther on November 10, 1843 in Eisleben, Germany. At the age of 18, in 1501, he enrolled at the University of Erfurt. During a terrible storm in Erfurt, he prayed to Saint Anna and promised that if he came out of the storm alive, he would become a monk. After surviving the storm, however, Luther regretted this promise, but still joined a monastery in 1505, becoming an Augustinian friar. In 1510 he visited Rome on behalf of several Augustinian monasteries and was disgusted by the corruption he found there.
