Every day, police officers across the United States are forced to make decisions while on duty, some are ethical and some are unethical. Police officers are under enormous stress when placed in dangerous situations and must use their discretion to the best of their ability. One of the most common unethical decisions made by police officers is the use of excessive force. Unfortunately, police brutality has taken the lives of many people in our country. This violence that has been occurring for so many years has caused outrage in society (Bach, 2014). Recent police shootings have also caused retaliation, such as riots, protests, and killings of police officers (Bach, 2014). Police brutality has negatively transformed society's perspective of policing due to the racial divide, racial profiling, and numerous senseless deaths committed by police officers. Police brutality is not a new problem in our country and has been occurring for many years (Bach, 2014). Excessive use of force is a problem that police departments must take control of officers (p. 151). Black people have been found to be more likely than white people to be stopped by police officers, even while walking. on the street (Pollock, 2017). Whites received fewer fines when stopped for a traffic stop (Pollock, 2017). It is also important to take into consideration the fact that blacks are eight times more likely to resist arrest and be found disrespectful to the police officer in the first place (Pollock,
