When I first read this quote I had to reread it because I thought I had read the wrong line and after reading the line again, almost sure I understood, I was completely shocked by the fact that some might say the same about their parents. I didn't agree with the narrator saying that his parents were dead and that was it, however once I got to the end of the poem I agreed with why the narrator says that. The narrator wasn't rude or mean, but I think they just didn't want to talk about it and the narrator feels that their parents are really dead. The narrator's parents still live in his memory and the reason why I believe this is because of the lines that say "That stupid fire couldn't take them all. Nothing could." The reason I answer this way is not because I lost my parents, but I know older members of my family who had them. My family members believe that as long as they keep the memory of their lost parent, their parents will also live. I believe this is the text that works on me, the reason is that my feelings are controlled by the text.
