Topic > Religion and the Existence of God - 1994

Religion and the existence of God is a topic that has been questioned, challenged, berated, ridiculed and studied for many years. Just talking about it has led to specific bans in schools and even physical abuse for those who dare to talk about it. With such a hot topic, it certainly makes you wonder if God exists. Those who argue otherwise want facts and evidence to back it up. For those who believe, the facts speak for themselves through the Bible, nature itself and, of course, man. But are tests really necessary? With all the physical objects and facts that exist to support the evidence for God and the Christian religion, isn't that what we really need? I will examine the question of the existence of God, present all possible opinions on this very topic, discuss my opinion and position on it, and address all philosophical theories that support or question the question. There is an old quote that says: “Nothing is certain but death and taxes”. Uncertainty is part of our lives as human beings, especially when it comes to the future and things we cannot explain. Only our existence remains uncertain as scientists, philosophers and ordinary humans strive to find the meaning of life, of how we came to be and who created us. Our lives are guided by faith in someone or something because we need it to hold on and go forward (Overman, 2010). We are all unique individuals, having our own perspectives on what we should have faith in. These perspectives are influenced by our families, our communities, our traditions, our education, and our personal experiences. This does not necessarily make our perspectives true nor does it make them false, but it is how we as people make the choices we make in our lives... middle of paper... when we discuss the existence of God. The argument of whether one exists is a proof enough for me because without the ability to use our mind to think, reason and discuss, these great minds given to us by our creator who created in his image; so how could we discuss it to begin with. A great deist named Voltaire once said, “With great power comes great responsibility.” What a great power it must be to have created the universe and everything in it. I can't imagine not having either that kind of power or the kind of responsibility necessary to maintain power and all that comes with it. While the realization of how enormous that power is is unimaginable, it is also astonishingly overwhelming and with utter admiration I have for the only one who could shoulder a responsibility of that magnitude. I don't know anyone else on this earth who could come close to that.
