Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson Who Moved My Cheese focuses on change. The story begins with the characters: Angela, Nathan, Carlos, Jessica and Michael, old school friends who reunite to remember the different paths their lives have taken. The whole group talks about how their lives turned out completely differently than they expected. Michael offers his opinion on the topic of change and decides to share a story. The story centers on two mice, Sniff and Scurry, and two "little people", Hem and Haw. The author uses a play on words in choosing the names of the characters. There is a meaning in the names Hem and Haw which is shown later by the whining and whining nature of the little people at the beginning of the story. The four characters live in a complex labyrinth and are forced to find cheese to survive. Although finding the cheese is quite easy at first, Hem and Haw decide to take comfort in their daily ritual because every time they wake up, the cheese is always replenished. They never think about the "what if" when unexpectedly one day the cheese is missing. Unlike Hem and Haw, Sniff and Scurry are prepared for such an event by making sure to wear their jogging shoes around their necks and looking for the next cheese station as soon as the first one has diminished. While Hem and Haw, literally, Hem and Haw at first, complain and choose to sit back and wait for things to happen, they eventually realize that they will die if they don't find more cheese. Mice are very practical and literal in their actions. In short, they do everything they have to do and overcome every obstacle to get cheese and survive. Of course there are many snags in the maze, but they don't make... half of the paper... what I gained from the story. There are many times even today that fear strikes me on a daily basis. Do I send my resume for this job? Should I worry? Will I just get rejected? Well, if I don't try, I'll never know, and not knowing is much worse than trying and failing. The hardest part is exactly what Haw said, taking the first step, because after that, no matter what happens, whether it's success or failure, you will always learn something and gain valuable knowledge along your journey and ultimately find success . was both inspired and refreshed by what this short book had to offer. While the words and text could have easily been read by a third grader, the themes and situations are truly timeless and universal. The way these complex emotions were conveyed in a simple way made it even more enjoyable to read.
