Throughout the film there are various rants from the characters about the rubbish that is produced and how there is no longer any meaning in the films or plays made. This message is made quite clear by Alejandro G. Iñárritu's expert direction, this is one of the few films that will be remembered for years for the astonishing final result. Iñárritu spent more than a year rehearsing the film with actors on a soundproof stage so he could get the timing right for the appearance of a single-shot film, and this yielded excellent results. Not once in the film do you think it's not a fluid account of a three-day period. Iñárritu took home the Best Director award for his efforts on this film, and it's well deserved. After watching Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), you'll feel like you've been watching The Godfather for the first time..
