Topic > The History of GameStop Corporation - 2814

Organization History“GameStop traces its roots to Babbage's, a small software retailer founded in Dallas, Texas in 1984. The movement that transformed Babbage's into GameStop began in 1994 with a series of mergers between Babbage and several other software vendors. When Babbage first merged with Software Etc. in 1994, the combined company was called NeoStar Retail, but the two halves continued to operate as if they were separate entities. (Gamestop Corp, 2013) At first, the company only acquired 800 stores. (Gamestop Corp, 2013) “On the last day of the meeting, the head of Barnes and Noble joined other members of the company to see what items could be put in the store around the biggest holiday of the year (which was Christmas) to keep the business stable and avoid its closure. The company then owed so much money that it couldn't even make a profit and because it wasn't making a profit it eventually had to stop shipping items with NeoStar Corp, 2013) The head of the company decided that the name of the company "NeoStar" (Gobel, The Questoa, 2013) does not seem to fit the company's business and decided that the company should join the company " Babbage/Software etc." “Around 2004, employees of the merging companies didn't think they would qualify to work there, but thanks to Riggio, employees were able to receive employee discounts.” (Gobel, 2013) In the year 2005, the companies finally found a way to facilitate the merger of the companies without any major issues or problems. Unfortunately, around the year 20010, the merger ended with GameStop's head office Nation. Success Magazine, p. 1. Gobel, R. (2013). -paul-raines-focuses-on-connectingHall, B. (2013, October 19).
