1776During the birth of this country and the years in which it thrived and prospered, many leaders stepped forward to help this great nation. This film documents some of the leaders who helped oppose the impossible and found one of the greatest countries in the world. While not historically accurate, this film provides people with examples of the type of leadership roles displayed by each member of Congress in the First Continental Congress. However, not all people present at the first congress demonstrate good leadership. Many of them had bad leadership which did not make the decision on independence any easier. Thanks to these great leaders, a nation was born and the roles of each person are now history in the eyes of every person today. Each great leader in the First Continental Congress had their own unique leadership styles that show us good and bad examples of leadership. One of the first characters I noticed during the film was John Hancock. Hancock demonstrates poor leadership by leaving George Washington stranded with few troops and no help. Hancock rejected Washington's plea for help at the beginning of the film, which made me come to the conclusion that he was a bad leader and a horrible man. Hancock actually ended up being a very strong leader, showing viewers that he was strong and courageous by being the deciding vote on whether the congress should talk about independence or not. Hancock's vote could have gone either way, deciding the fate of the new country or Britain's power. In my eyes, though, John Adams was the greater leader, showing viewers that he was determined to get rid of Brittan and all the evil they had done. Under no circumstances does Adams resign because of anything or anyone in his struggle that made him a good leader and exerted a powerful influence on the destiny of this country. Thomas Jefferson was a good leader by showing his will and strength in helping Adams write a Declaration and go against all others who were against the idea of independence. One of the strangest leaders who also shows good leadership and courage is South Carolina Congressman Edward Rutledge. He stood up to John Adams for what he truly believed was best for him and the people.
