Who am I? Many of us walk around trying to figure out who we are and what we stand for. Self-reflection can be expressed in many different ways, using many different adjectives to describe the person we are. There are some who give an honest description of themselves and then there are some who are disappointed by the perception they want others to see. Most people on social sites create a profile that can be so far from who they really are, it's usually a perception of who they want to be. This article will define the self, the concept of the self, the functions of the self, the core motivations of the self, and how the core motivations of the self relate to survival. The definition of the self can have a variety of descriptions depending on who defines it. The self is an embodied human being who has different attributes, characteristics, and interests that distinguish it from other people. The self will take ownership and possession of materialistic objects to create a perspective that can be seen by others. The self is the study of the effective and cognitive method of identifying oneself. There are four fundamental levels to identify the self: bodily self, inner self, interpersonal self, and social self (Fiske, 2010). The bodily self, can also be called the material self, is the most simplistic level of identifying the peculiar characteristics of a person. The bodily self takes ownership of its possessions. The distinction between self and non-self would include an expressive response to the loss, damage, or derogation of something. These are all characteristics of the self (Fiske, 2010). The inner self is an experience that a person will have, which can be described as an experience of the inner body... center of the card... ok, it will take a while to forgive, but it will happen again naturally . For some reason, Americans have a tendency to trust others quickly. In life we must learn to trust others to build solid foundations. These five core social behaviors help build the individual to become a better person as a whole. Each motif defines the self and enhances the overall quality built in each person. These core motivations help balance the survival tactics needed to succeed and live a long, fulfilling life. Building a strong, solid foundation creates a path to develop loving relationships, build and improve one's self-esteem and worth, and have the opportunity to become part of a group or community.
