When you think about music education, you might think that it is only valid when it involves listening to different songs and tapping two sticks together in time with songs. However, there is a much deeper meaning than this. According to acclaimed author J. Yudkin, “Music education is a field of study associated with the teaching and learning of music. It touches all areas of learning, including the psychomotor area (the development of skills), the cognitive area (the acquisition of knowledge) and, in particular and significant ways, the affective area, including appreciation and musical sensitivity. The inclusion of music education from preschool to post-secondary education is common in most nations because involvement in music is considered a fundamental component of human culture and behavior. Music, like language, is an achievement that distinguishes us as human beings” (Yudkin 4). The topic of the expurgation of music education has been debated for many decades. However, those who argue this fail to realize that music education not only plays a vital role in improving students' grades, but also in improving their behavior. Music education should remain in the curricula of today's students because it has a positive effect on their education, in turn leading them to a better and more fruitful future. In today's modern society, most students are usually not enthusiastic about the idea of coming to school. However, if all of these students were enrolled in a music education class, their perspective on school would most likely be affected.
