The United States population is characterized by a rapidly growing elderly population. It is said that by 2050 there will be 80 million people over the age of 65. While many may simply consider this a fact, it is an important glimpse into what the healthcare field will require. Although there are many healthy elderly people, the longer a person lives, the more likely they are to get sick. These disorders can be small or chronically chronic. These health disparities will increase this nation's expenses. Older Americans simply need more healthcare; therefore, it stands to reason that their care costs three to five times that of a younger person. As a person ages, the healing process slows, so they take longer to rehab and suffer from more chronic conditions. People are living longer because there are better treatment regimens and a greater choice of medications, but the economic situation of many older adults does not meet the needs of their daily lives and their medical expenses (Allender, Rector, & Warner, 2014). Older adults are a vulnerable population due to a lack of resources and increased rates of health problems. There must be no discrimination in care; regardless of age, ethnicity, gender or socioeconomic position, every person deserves to be treated fairly when it comes to their health. The term ageism is often used due to the growing population of older adults in need of work or life-saving care. Ageism is the discrimination of a person based on their age. This is not appropriate in any context, but in healthcare it needs to be removed for the psyche of all healthcare workers. While some seniors may suffer from complex medical conditions, others m...... middle of paper ...... you. Kristi is an avid coffee drinker, a habit she has no intention of quitting. Evidence of falls: There is no evidence of falls that could not happen to a person of any age. Kristi fell while trying to learn to rollerblade, which she now recognizes as a bad decision. A second fall was associated with yard work. There was a deep but narrow hole where the ankle had slipped. This resulted in a fall. She understands that this may become a bigger issue as she and her husband age, so they plan to install assistive devices when they move to a new home. Family assessment tool:
