People should not be forced to wear helmets because not wearing a helmet costs the government more money than wearing a helmet in an accident, there is no there is a difference between injuries with a helmet and without a helmet and a helmet limits personal freedom. Living in Wisconsin we see many motorcyclists riding without helmets, many non-motorcyclists think that that rider is irresponsible or has a death wish and that they are costing them more money in those taxes, that is simply not true many motorcyclists have health insurance . Which covers the costs exactly like those of a car accident. Motorcyclists are 45% more likely to be injured in a bicycle accident than other drivers (CDC pg. or par. #). That's the name of the game, and cyclists learn to accept the reality of their chosen mode of transportation. The CDC has a positive stance on helmet use, but where do they get this information from a 30 year study on helmet and non-helmet use among motorcyclists in California the man behind this study was Professor John Hurt for the which the study became known as the Injury Report. In this report he followed hundreds of motorcyclists and documented what happened to each of them over the course of ten years he had strange areas of study such as how much faired motorcycles are involved in accidents a fairing is a plexiglass or plastic mounted on the front of the motorcycle that prevents wind and other debris from hitting the rider. What Mr. Hurt has found is that motorcycles equipped with fairings are involved in accidents much less, probably because motorcyclists who have fairings are more experienced than other motorcyclists who have not discovered the benefits of a fairing. For the non-motorcyclists in the population, why should non-cyclists care about the engine...... middle of paper...... 2013. ."Hitting the Road Without a Helmet; Motorcyclists Hope Michigan Governor Signs L order terminating the law."
