Solomon and Gaeynor is little more than another more modern version of Romeo and Juliet. The basic plot of Solomon and Gaeynor is about a couple who fall deeply in love, but face the problem that their families are very different and would never accept a marriage between the two of them. Similarly in Romeo and Juliet, a young couple falls madly in love, but due to the dispute between the two families, it is not possible for them to get married and live happily ever after. Solomon, a young Jew, meets a Welsh girl as he goes door to door to sell cloth to make clothes. They fall in love within a short period of time, however Gaeynor is unaware that Solomon is from Jewish ancestry. Likewise his family does not know about his Welsh mistress. After meeting Gaeynor's family and being half-accepted by them, Gaeynor becomes quite suspicious that he is keeping their relationship so secret and has never introduced her to his family. In Romeo and Juliet a similar barrier is found between the two lovers, however in this case both lovers were aware of the fact. The main difference, however, is that in Romeo and Juliet the lovers are separated by a war that divides the two families. In comparison, Solomon and Gaeynor are kept apart by the fact that they come from different religious backgrounds. Gaeynor is of Jewish origin and, as has often happened throughout history, the Jewish people were hated by the local population and blamed for... middle of paper ......meo and Julliet there was no child who added confusion to the situation. However, in Solomon and Gaeynor, the latter becomes pregnant, and as a result creates a greater bond between the two lovers, as well as aggravating the situation. All in all, however, both of these couples suffered a very similar fate, and their love and feelings for each other had been repressed by society, and especially by their family. Some subtle differences appear in the two stories, as well as a difference in place and time, but when we look at the basic structure of both stories, we arrive at the same result. Two young people fall madly in love and it all ends in disaster, as one of them (or both) dies fighting for something their family hated them for..
