Topic > Guns Are Destroying America - 865

Gun control in the United States has been a major debate for hundreds of years. Many people believe that guns should be highly regulated while others believe that anyone should have the ability to own one. Each side has a plausible argument. This essay will show how failure to control guns can increase violence and death rates, how everyone's right to own a gun is not guaranteed by the Second Amendment, and how excessive gun use has played a role in the decrease of the animal population. Gun violence is a major issue in America. Weapons are a means to an end; which means that firearms have played a major role in suicides, homicides and injuries. Over the last ten years, an average of 400-500 thousand gun violence incidents have occurred per year (Gun Violence). The number of people injured by gun incidents in the United States every year for the past ten years is 400-600 thousand people (gun violence). These statistics are absolutely shocking to anyone. The amount of violence and crime resulting from firearms is enormous. It is critical that proper gun control is implemented through background checks and appropriate training. It can be almost certain that the number of incidents of accidental shootings by children and the number of victims affected by gun crimes in general can be significantly reduced. Many people believe that owning any type of firearm is a right guaranteed by the Second Amendment; this is not necessarily true. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution states: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” This amendment therefore guarantees people the right to own a gun. The Amendment is not... middle of paper...al and practical. If gun control is enacted to reduce violence and death rates, then this is practical and reasonable. However, if gun control is only issued to limit the Second Amendment as a way to express dominance and power in the legislature, then this is not a practical use of it and therefore should be reviewed by a court. One of the biggest problems related to firearms is overuse, which has caused rapid declines in some animal populations. This must become more controlled and supervised to ensure a strong ecosystem and represent a sacristy of life. Works Cited Gibson, J. William. "The new war on wolves."
