Contents• Essay Report……………P 1-4• Peer Observation…………………… …………….. P 5• Critical Incident Questionnaires ……………P 6With reference to the core readings associated with this module and the four critical lenses described by Brookfield, describe a hegemonic assumption that came to your attention during your school placement. Explain how this came to attention and why this assumption can be characterized as hegemonic. Think critically about this assumption and the implications it has for you as a teacher“Hegemonic assumptions are assumptions that we believe are in our best interests but that actually work against us in the long term”Teacher S. Brookfield (1995). Becoming a critically reflective teacher. University of Michigan: Jossey-low. P 203. In this report I will describe one of my hegemonic assumptions regarding the issue of classroom management. I will reflect on the issue from my learning within the classroom and critically reflect using Brookfield's four lenses my student autobiography, student perspective, peer/colleague perspective, and theoretical literature. In this essay I will identify my hegemonic assumption; explore why the assumption is hegemonic, how this assumption came to my attention during and before the TP. As far as classroom management goes, it would be one of my main concerns to come out with teaching practice. Since my school days I felt that it was difficult enough for teachers to teach pupils information in a positive learning environment and in classes with predominantly disruptive pupils it was almost impossible. Before starting the TP I spoke to the 3rd year UL students who had already done the TP for some advice, perhaps on my teaching. One of them constantly said “the… middle of paper… of the environment as a whole.” The students seemed to thrive with these new teaching techniques and their motivation for class activities continually grew with my new attitude towards teaching. As a result, I have also found that my teaching is much better as I have engaged much more with the pupils and our pupil-teacher relationship has blossomed around this change in assumptions. In conclusion, I feel that I have gained knowledge that can only be obtained through practical classroom experience. With this experience I have changed my assumption about classroom management techniques and have a totally new perspective that will only help me as a teacher. This will help me a lot in the future, but I feel that as a teacher you have to constantly be open to learning and improving. Bibliography: • Essential teaching skills in schools, C.
