Information retrieval is simply a field that deals with the organization of information. In other words, IR emphasizes the range of different materials that need to be researched. Other researchers have argued that IR is the contrast between the strong structure and typification of a database system with the lack of structure in the objects typically searched for in IR. The actual process in information retrieval systems is to handle incomplete or under-specified information in the form of queries submitted by users. IR uses the techniques of storing, retrieving and often disseminating recorded data, particularly through the use of a computerized system. IR systems receiving such queries must fill in the gaps of the user's underspecified query. For example, the user who types "nuclear waste dumplings" into a search engine like Google is probably looking for multiple documents describing the topic.
