Topic > Personal Reflection on Teaching: My Personal Philosophy...

If the student is the one carrying a lantern, then it is the teacher's duty to make sure the flame is still lit. The flame provides the light that gives students the opportunity to see things as interesting and magical and it is the teacher's job to maintain this way of seeing. To do this, I should motivate and encourage students by challenging them with thought-provoking lessons and assignments. I should be objective and offer students a fresh start when things go wrong, always showing respect. I should always show compassion and, above all, teach with passion. Education should prepare children for the real world, but if I can teach by encouraging my students to become adults who see with a lantern and not a headlight, then I will have done my duty as a teacher to help create productive, interesting, and real-world creatives.
