Background Depression refers to a wide range of mental health disorders. People suffering from depression will lose interest and pleasure in ordinary things and experiences (absence of positive affect). They may also have low mood and a range of associated emotional, cognitive, physical, and behavioral symptoms (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, 2010). Furthermore, depression can also be defined as sadness and loss of interest for at least two weeks, in at least four of the symptoms that affect our daily life. The symptoms were divided into two groups, physical symptoms and psychological symptoms. Physical symptoms include insomnia, change in body weight, fatigue, slow movements, and restlessness. On the other hand, psychological symptoms include guilt, decreased concentration, and suicidal ideation. (Jorm, Allen, Morgan, Ryan & Purcell, 2013) Depression becomes a common phenomenon in this society. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 350 million people are expected to be affected by depression worldwide (World Health Organization, 2012). It has been predicted that by 2020, depression will become the second most important health condition, just after heart disease (Chui, 2012). On the other hand, according to the Institute of Mental Health at Castle Peak Hospital, it appears that approximately 5% of men and 10% of women are affected by depression in developed countries (Chui, 2012). In Hong Kong, a telephone interview survey assessing the prevalence of depressive episodes randomly selected more than 5,000 adults aged 18 to 64 in 2004. The result of this survey shows that the overall prevalence of women and men is 9 .7% and 6.8%. separately and the total is 8.4% (Centre for Health Protection, 2012). Furthermore, one study shows different levels of depressive symptoms using the Chinese Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) on 966
