Topic > Reflection Paper on Poverty - 903

Poverty is not the problem of one man, but is the whole question of the unity of humanity. While I am no Karl Marx, or even a modern-day Mahatma Gandhi, I believe there must be a new protocol to address the conflicts surrounding this issue. Every human being should deserve the right to education and deserve the privilege of not dying for lack of common resources such as food. There must be a level of practicality, in our roles as a global community, in ending the suffering that results from our greed. Today there are still many who live on a US$1 salary, and we still have the courage to accept it as a “normal” structure. What is not normal is the belief that war is the solution to peace, or that sovereignty over a country can be threatened by the military powers of any nation. I say this because war has always been a tool for the desolate places of poverty, together with the oligarchies of current political systems. We are all but one race, the human race, and we must begin to care for the least in our society for peace to be sustained. May those in poverty know that they are not forgotten and that through the power of education many leaders will be encouraged to stop this global crisis.
