Stylistic Uses of Night The Holocaust is known to be one of the world's greatest catastrophes. Many know this, but very few know what life was like in the concentration camps. In the memoir, Night, Elie Wiesel uses figurative language such as metaphors, irony, foreshadowing, and unique sentence structures, to convey and compare how life during the Holocaust was horrible, full of lies and regrets, and how it was like " a long night." , seven times cursed" (25). Elie Wiesel knows how to use similes and metaphors to express terror during the Holocaust. In Elie's biography, Elie tells the audience about an episode in which he was shown an example of horrible behavior. He writes: "Two lambs, with a hundred wolves lurking. Two lambs without a shepherd: a gift" (43). In this passage Elie symbolizes three things: the lambs, the wolves and the shepherd. The entire quote speaks of the ferocity and lust shown by the wolves (representing the prisoners) towards of the lambs (which replace the soup cauldrons) left unattended by the shepherd....
