When the research project is submitted, students go to Google and search for the topic resulting in over a million websites. “They tended to abuse Google and abuse academic databases. They preferred simple database searches to other methods of discovery” (Kolowich). College students don't have time to sit in the library and do research. The constant pressure of school work and work makes time a precious thing in a commuter school. They need to find the easiest and fastest way to complete a project. “Now more than ever, academic librarians should seek to 'save the reader's time'” (Kolowich). Librarians either spend too much time hovering over students or no time at all. “Librarians tend to overestimate the research abilities of some of their students, which can result in interactions that leave students with a sense of intimacy and alienation” (Kolowich). Our campus library doesn't work efficiently, so students don't want to spend time there. The result means that their job is half done and that they do not take education seriously. The campus library should post pictures and signs, and librarians should go around offering help to those who need time management and ways to get their jobs done faster. Additionally, our campus library needs more study rooms, offer study skills workshops, and control the amount of people who aren't using the library for the right reasons, like a place to chat.
