Opti-MINDS encouraged participants to brainstorm to find sustainable solutions to problems. Problems needed to be interpreted through an image, poem, or story that added complexity to the situation. I was able to implement my leadership skills into the challenge by assigning tasks to my group members and setting deadlines. In 2014 I was the leader of my group in the Tournament of Minds challenge. The Tournament of Minds was an inspiring problem-solving program, and by following strict guidelines regarding the use of materials and dimensions, my group created a recyclable sugar dispensing device. This challenge encouraged me to develop my leadership skills and work effectively in a team. From 2013 to 2015 I was an active member of St John Ambulance Queensland. I have volunteered as a First Aid Officer at various public events, including the 100th ANZAC Day ceremony. I was offered the opportunity to attend a youth leadership program hosted by St John Ambulance Australia to further my first aid training and fulfill the cadet corporal requirements. I also presented a seminar to my colleagues and attended a seminar on CPR and basic first aid to receive accreditation for treating patients.
