By grouping students together to work on different levels of music, each student is given a challenge to understand that piece of music. This article suggests the use of groups in the music classroom and some examples are provided. In Maggie's elementary music classroom she grouped students into three groups (beginner, moderate, and advanced) and each group did a series of activities that helped students be more successful in that content area. An example for each group was: the beginner group did a lot of rhythm reading activities, the moderate group played games of reviewing the names of the treble clef notes and the advanced group practiced placing the notes on the staff with a computer game.
