In this essay I will weigh the positive and negative aspects of being connected to different communities thanks to today's technology and the effect this could have on cultures world. In today's world, the Internet is a widely used utility, with a wide variety of uses. One of the biggest benefits is that it allows people to communicate with people from all over the world, people they wouldn't normally be able to connect with. There are many platforms that allow people to do this; there's Twitter, Facebook, email and many more. Now it is possible to find people from different cultures who share the same interests and become friends with them, even if they may be on the other side of the world. Technology also allows you to know what is happening in the world is good. As a collective group, people are capable of changing certain things in the world; an example of this is the flash mob that occurred in Spain on March 13, 2004. Many incidents like this have occurred over the years, thanks to the ability to easily communicate with large numbers of people. It is now possible to send messages to protesters in different parts of the world, and it is also possible to talk to people in dangerous areas, to make sure they are okay. All of our communities are evolving and becoming different, and as technology grows, so do we. Some people see our change as a culture and think it's a bad thing, but I think it's a great thing. More and more people are becoming multilingual, as a result of the desire to be absorbed in and learn about different cultures, and as a result, we are all becoming closer as a species, because of how connected we are. We are told that this technology is making us antisocial and preventing us from living our lives, but in my opinion it is doing exactly the opposite. We don't need to be isolated from other cultures, just because we don't live near them, it's much better to be connected and I feel like we are all much more sociable, because we are able to talk to people from distant countries and make friendships that would have been impossible just a few decades ago. Since we are able to become friends with many new people, this can help people go and experience other cultures. Some people are afraid of traveling long distances, but if we have friends in those places to stay with and help us, we can travel and experience their cultures with ease.
