Why you might think the Galaxy S4 is a great smartphone and why there's probably a better phone out there for you (you've never heard of it): It's the holiday season and if you're in the market for a new phone, the Galaxy S4 is probably at the top of your list. However, there are many reasons not to buy the device and/or prefer another smartphone. - One thing you've probably all heard about is all the great features of the Galaxy S4. Scrolling with your eyes, checking things without touching them... sounds amazing... right? Yes, if they worked. The truth is, they don't work half the time. And they are on by default. Sucking up precious battery life and sucking up CPU power. Have you ever envied how smooth your friend's iPhone is? Well, these "features" are to blame. From now on we will call them gimmicks. Nice to show off once or twice, but other than that they're just a nuisance.- But everyone else has it! A couple of years ago you would have said the same thing, except against the Galaxy S4. The “it” in that case would be whatever the latest and (probably not so) best iPhone is. Some concerns from friends I've recommended something else to is that they want a phone to fit in with what everyone else is using. This worry goes out the window the moment they simply hear you say “OK Google Now!” and your brand new Moto contract and without any connection with a telephone operator. - Still not convinced? Galaxy S4s have been known to explode, even in people's hands! I've gotten multiple responses recently...halfway through a sheet of paper...if all you're going to do is play a few games, text, make calls, and browse the web/watch YouTube/listen to music, then the Moto G it's more than capable of handling whatever you throw at it. One phone I didn't mention is the Nexus 5. This is my favorite and the phone I'm using right now. The reason I don't recommend it is because it is aimed at developers and hackers. At the forefront of operating system updates, what it runs isn't always stable. Its hardware wasn't designed to withstand extended use, but more for development, as evident by its top-notch SoC and not-so-top-notch battery. However, if you're going to do some serious tinkering/rooting/flashing custom ROMs, this is the phone for you. On the other hand, if you're going to do this, I probably shouldn't have introduced you to this phone because you probably already know it or already own one.
