Topic > Flower-Fed Buffalo by Vachel Lindsay - 1051

My static image is on the poem "Flower-Fed Buffalo" written by Vachel Lindsay. Urbanization is one of the dominant and important themes, supported by the idea of nature and man. Therefore, my static image is based on this theme. Urbanization is the process associated with the development of civilization and technology in a rural area, as shown in this poem. 'Flower-Fed Buffaloes' is about the rapid extinction and disappearance of not only buffalo in America, but also Native American tribes, as a result of urbanization (shown in the poem through objects such as locomotives). The verbal techniques used to represent this theme are the quote and the engraving on the last image. First, the quote reads “is swept away by the grain. . . wheels and wheels and wheels turn.” This quote is used to show how industry and technology took place among buffalo. The phrase “is swept away by the grain” shows how the grain (which was specially grown by man) is not described in any way, showing only its usefulness but no pleasure to be found in it, contrary to descriptions of nature. The following phrase "wheels, wheels and spinning wheels" is used, as it reflects the monotonous movement of technology that is the train, and parallels the previous beautiful and graceful movements of nature, such as grass. This demonstrates the continuing encroachment of urbanization. The second verbal technique is the engraving on the tombstone of the last image that says “RIP MURDERED BY THE MODERN WORLD”. This was mostly used to not only highlight and dramatize the morbid effects of urbanization (as shown in the image), but also to show the real reason why buffalo became extinct and Native Americans 'disappeared' –..... . middle of paper ......n occurred. So, this shows when was the turning point of the poem, so no color so bright or dark could describe this moment. The format of the entire image is important, as it is established in the "rule of thirds". This is because since the phrase “is swept away by the wheat” represents the turning point and change in the poem, it is at the top. Therefore, this means that images representing change are at the center to portray urbanization change and effects. Finally, the "wheels and wheels and wheels spin by" line is at the bottom, to highlight the industry's takeover, as shown in the images. Overall, in the poem "Flower-Fed Buffaloes" written by Vachel Hardy, the theme of urbanization (supported by the idea of the relationship between nature and man) is represented in my static image in numerous ways, including both visual and verbal techniques.
