PERIODIZATIONPeriodization refers to the division of a training program into discrete periods of time called macrocycles, mesocycles, and microcycles. It is a way to organize training objectives. It involves dividing the training period into phases focused on various aspects. Although each phase has a different objective, each phase builds on the results of the previous phase. COMPONENTS OF PERIODIZATION1. Macrocycle: A macrocycle is the entire training period. It consists of mesocycles and microcycles. For some sports that have one season per year, a macrocycle can last one year while some sports have multiple seasons per year and therefore multiple macrocycles.2. Mesocycle: A mesocycle is the periodic subdivision of the macrocycle. It can last several months or several weeks. In a periodic program, each mesocycle has different purposes but each mesocycle is built on the progress of previous mesocycles.3. MicrocycleMultiple mycocycles make up a mesocycle. A microcycle is the cycle in intensity. It can last five days or even three weeks for some muscle groups. Even a microcycle can do this ...
