To write and perform this speech, students will need to use the values they have gained from their liberal arts experience. These values are described in William Cronon's work “Only Connect…”. Just some of the values to use in the student situation are as follows: they can talk to anyone, they can write clearly, persuasively, and emotionally, and they understand how to get things done in the world (Cronon, 3-5). All of this will be very useful when students start writing their speech. Students will not be shy as they face a large audience full of people who oppose their opinions and stance towards the local art center. They will remain strong as they clearly describe their stories of self-regulation and overcoming their disadvantaged backgrounds through the means of their multifaceted qualities. In telling their stories, students will be able to clearly make their points of view in order to persuade the public to want to save the local arts center by gaining the community support needed to obtain the funding that can save the arts center. Students will be able to move everyone who listens in such a way that the audience will too
