When the Christian church was founded, many questions arose about its formation. What was this new organization and what would become of it? There are many interpretations of what the church should be like. They range from a small community church led by a reverend to a worldwide church led by a pope. I will support the latter. That the original meaning of the Bible was to have one unified church under the primacy of the bishop of Rome. This can be argued in three areas: historical, biblical, and theological reasoning. Before we dive into the wonderful world of Church history, I find it important to point out my own biases. I was raised Roman Catholic and currently still practice my faith. So this will change both my rule of faith and my canon. The main Bible I will use is the Harper Collins Study Bible since that is the one I have with me. The Bible in the Catholic faith is seen as one of the two main factors of religion. Unlike other Christian faiths that believe the Bible is the only rule of faith. Roman Catholics believe that the Bible and the living tradition of the church in unison provide the correct interpretation. First, it is important to note that the church, just like Rome, was not built in a single night. The origin of the Christian faith did not begin as an individual faith but rather from a sub-branch of Judaism. Before the creation of the church there had been a century of tradition and worship through the temple. This brings important factors into the creation of the church as it allows for a better understanding of how ancient Jewish worship functioned. Then Jesus came and his teaching laid the foundations of Christianity and the church. During the apostolic age this was greatly expanded until the end of the Fir...... middle of paper ......olician and Orthodox the ministry of the Christian Church is carried out by the apostles by a continuous succession of bishops and priests . This means that every ordained member of the church had received grace from another bishop. This line can be traced back to the apostles. This succession grants power to those who are the disciples. So it means that the bishop of Rome will inherit Peter's powers. The opposing view of the primacy of the bishop of Rome comes from the Eastern and Protestant faiths. The Orthodox recognize Peter's primacy but see him more as a first among equals. Instead of supremacy it is a specialty. Protestants, however, disagree that the pope should be the sole interpreter of the Bible and its meaning. They believe that everyone should think it is right. Protestants also claim that the authority in Mathews is not exclusive to Peter but to the church as a whole.
