To be a successful and licensed physician, there are three main components that a medical student must accomplish and excel at. These educational components consist of earning a four- to five-year degree that meets medical school entrance requirements, four years of medical school itself, and then three to seven years of residency (“Time for Medical School”). According to Peterson's staff online article, "The road to becoming a doctor takes 11 to 16 years, and you'll have at least thirty years of that before you're ready to start your practice." In contrast, the average time it takes to complete academic training to become a police officer is nineteen weeks, awarded by the Bureau of Justice Statistics; although one of the most perplexing police departments, the Memphis Police Department, requires a minimum of fifty-four hours of college credit (Parker). Evidently, the training process and time frame to become a law enforcement officer is mediocre compared to the process of becoming a law enforcement officer.
