Being considered the most talented artist of your time is a huge title. It is a title that the great Michelangelo took in great abundance. His art is the most famous art in existence and inspires admiration for several artists around the world. From sculpture to poetry, Michelangelo's work takes the label of the most elaborate art in history. Even today he is considered the greatest artist of all time. Michelangelo was born on March 6 in Caprese, Tuscany, a boot-shaped region of Italy. He died in February 1564. Michelangelo influenced the art world so much that the city in which he was born was named after him! For several generations his family had been small bankers in Florence, the bank had failed and his father, Ludovico, briefly took a government post in Caprese. Several months after Michelangelo's birth, his family moved to Florence, Italy, as he grew up. At the age of six Michelangelo lost his mother due to illness. He later moved in with a stonemason and his family, who worked for Michelangelo's father on a small farm. It was the stonemason who first made Michelangelo interested in sculpture. Working with chisel and hammer was exciting for him even as a young man. School was dull and boring for young Michelangelo. He spent most of his time examining art and attempting to replicate it. He enjoyed the company of other painters. When he was older, Michelangelo's father enrolled him in high school. Still uninterested in the mean and harsh ways of the educational system, Michelangelo spent most of his time studying the vast art of Florence, Italy. Michelangelo was originally commissioned to paint the Twelve Apostles on the triangular corner that supported the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Michelangelo convinced the Pope to give him a free hand and proposed a different and more complicated scheme, representing the Creation, the Fall of Man, the Promise of Salvation through the Prophets and the Genealogy of Christ. Michelangelo became one of the most famous artists of all the times thanks to all his sculptures, works of art and paintings. The amount of work he created surpassed many of his time and today's modern artists. He demonstrated abilities beyond any individual of his time. His name is known as the greatest Renaissance artist of all time.
