In the 1920s people couldn't even spread information about birth control, now it's mandatory to teach it to students aged 12 and up. Sometimes spreading information is not enough for society, so they distribute contraceptives to teenagers without asking for parental consent. But without Margaret's fight to make birth control available to women we wouldn't even be able to inform students about it. Margaret Sanger believes birth control should be legalized for married women. Margaret Sanger believes that women should have the right to decide what they can and cannot do with their bodies. Margaret saw her mother die at a young age, after raising 11 children. “The turning point in her life came when one of her patients, whose doctor had withheld information about contraceptives, died following the birth of her fifth child” (Margaret Sanger). This example opened Margaret's eyes and made her start fighting for the right to birth control. (Introduction of the second quotation). “The moral and sexual balance in civilization will be established only by a woman's assertion and expression of power” (Margaret Sanger Promotes Birth Control...). (Explanation on 2nd quote). According to Sanger, “a woman's power can express itself and make itself felt only when she refuses the task of giving birth to unwanted children to be exploited in industry and massacred in wars” (Margaret Sanger Promotes Birth Control…). He's basically saying that it's a terrible idea for women to bring a child into a cruel and unforgiving world, especially when they're not wanted on this planet in the first place. (Conclusion). Not only was Sanger's speech compelling, but it was also groundbreaking in this moment in history. Until she witnessed the deaths of… middle of paper… happen this way or that” (Margaret Sanger Promotes Birth Control…). Women are not toys, men can't just expect them to do what they say, and if you think you are wrong. People thought it was okay to treat women like objects and Margaret clearly didn't agree with this. “We are alive and intelligent, we are women no less than men and we must awaken to the essential awareness that we are living beings…” (Margaret Sanger promotes birth control…). In making this comment, Margaret urges women to open their eyes and realize that they have value. That they should have the right to decide what they want to do with their lives and their unborn children. Margaret Sanger is a credible source not only because she has spent her entire life researching and fighting to make birth control legal, but because she has life-changing experiences that influenced the creation of her discourse..
