TobaccoTobacco has been around for many years and should be stopped, but economics can handle it. Tobacco reaches young children, not to mention even non-smokers. The medical effects alone should convince people to quit smoking. Even if people wanted to quit, it would be difficult because they are already addicted. If health doesn't stop people from smoking, costs should because the tobacco tax increased dramatically this year. So now the cost is weakening our pockets. The only ones who win in the tobacco business are the Tobacco Company, because they make all the money. If profits decline, all they have to do is advertise a little harder and profits will increase. But the Tobacco Company employs many people and is an important part of the economy. There are many smokers and they are increasing, but today more than ever the smokers are children. “By age 18, about two-thirds of young people in the United States have tried smoking.” (Elders 1994) We must not let this happen, kids are our future and we should want the best for them, but this will help the tobacco company because “Most people who smoke become addicted when they are in their 20s. " (Elders 1994) This will prevent young people from smoking for a long time. We must protect children from smoking otherwise we will bury them prematurely. “It is estimated that tobacco caused approximately three million deaths per year in the early 1990s and rising.” (Mccuen 1997) Soon smokers will become younger and younger, we must save the children, or who will. Smokers are not the only ones who are affected by tobacco smoke. "Cigarettes don't just kill the smoker, they also kill... middle of paper... the little ones In Your Community, 1992, Stanford CRDP5.
