Hunger and obesity together Obesity cannot be solved without first solving hunger and poverty. Being healthy requires healthy foods (including fruits, vegetables and low-fat products) and burning more calories than you digest. Healthy foods can cost a lot of money and push low-income families to eat unhealthy processed foods. Obesity and hunger are linked, and each can be linked to poverty. While obesity appears to be the result of too much food and hunger and lack of food, the common problem of poverty must be addressed to alleviate the obesity crisis in the United States. Low-income neighborhoods lack grocery stores and markets where they can stock up. obtain healthy food, impacting both obesity and hunger rates. Instead, residents are limited to local convenience stores that lack fresh produce and low-fat products. Instead these stores will have processed foods devoid of nutrients. Without good grocery stores and markets, this is also affecting the hunger for where and how residents will be able to get food. Having few local convenience stores that often offer overpriced items pushes more residents to have less food and go hungry. Therefore, the lack of good grocery stores or markets with nutrient-rich foods affects both obesity and hunger rates. Less money equals unhealthy and more money equals healthy. One type of processed food is cheap, but it also affects people's health. McDonalds® is one of the cheapest fast food restaurants in the United States of America, some dishes cost only a dollar and it is also one of the unhealthiest. Low-income families go there because they are hungry and need an affordable place to eat, but it also affects their health. McDonald's and many other fast food restaurants contribute by producing unhealthy food... half paper... also making more food available globally. Around the world, there are still food shortages in areas where food is difficult to grow. . Africa has a climate that makes it difficult to grow enough food for people's needs. Transporting food is difficult as healthy foods can spoil. Climate and rainfall can make growing good foods a problem. So location and population can contribute to global hunger. The amount of bad foods is another factor that contributes to obesity, portions of bad foods are sometimes large. Kids can sit down and eat an entire bag of chips or a bowl of ice cream. The foods are really good and encourage children to continue eating more and more. Therefore, the amount of bad food consumed increases the number of people who become obese. Sodas with lots of sugar and caffeine are examples of how they provide a sugar rush and make people want more.
