Cardio can be performed in a vast number of ways. The cardio method preferred by most of the population is long, slow cardio. While this helps promote a healthy heart, it has to be one of the least effective styles. By doing this type of cardio, you bring your heart rate to a low average instead of pushing it up to your cardiovascular threshold. This threshold is generally 75-85% of your maximum heart rate. This range is where the heart is truly pushed to its limits, causing it to produce more red blood cells to deliver the precise amount of oxygen to the affected heart and muscles. America has become more sedentary as the years have passed due to all the technology that keeps us indoors. “More than 80% of adults do not meet guidelines for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities, and more than 80% of adolescents do not engage in enough aerobic physical activity to meet youth guidelines” (healthypeople .gov). Cardio helps the heart pump blood through the rest of the body. The stronger the heart pumps, the faster the muscles receive red blood cells that carry oxygen. The heart is vital to any daily activity, adequate cardio gives anyone the ability to function better throughout the day
