Topic > Classical Conditioning by Ivan Pavlov - 1254

The topics discussed in this article reflect my views and understanding of the concepts learned in my introductory psychology course. They explain how my perception of certain topics and understanding of the procedures used to realize the theories change. Psychologists who have made it easier to understand human behavior and learning are well recognized. Also, how my perspective has changed on how people interact with each other and the behaviors they take in certain situations. Last but not least, I will also explain how the information gained from the introduction to psychology, will be used and adapted to everyday life situations. One of the most surprising discoveries in psychology is the classical conditioning of Ivan Pavlov (1849-1936). The discovery in particular, was so incredibly fun for me because it was able to test how animals/humans can classically condition themselves to certain stimuli. He also finds that there can be stimulus generalization, meaning that a stimulus similar to the original one can be conditioned to produce the same effect. For example, if a dog is spanked with a newspaper, he may use stimulus generalization with a belt. He found that there can be stimulus discrimination, for example if you roll up a newspaper to use for swapping flies rather than to discipline the dog over a period of time the dog will not have the same reaction towards the newspaper or a belt. In fact, he saw that with a conditional stimulus he could create an unconditioned stimulus condition, which he called higher-order conditioning. This means that if a beep is the stimulus of the condition, every time the beep beeps a green light comes on for a trial period, the same uncondition... middle of paper... the teachings mi they taught how people act and why. Before these learnings I thought that people behave that way because they don't really care about others, or that they would only help someone from whom they can derive some benefit. But I learned that people do these strange behaviors to be socially accepted even if it goes against their beliefs. This information will help me in the future to better understand human behavior and know how to react more efficiently to every life situation. Furthermore, knowledge teaches and modifies unwanted behaviors by classically conditioning them to a more acceptable one. Truth be told, I will now take action when I see someone in trouble instead of thinking that help is already on the way or that they don't really need help. In fact, I will continue to disagree with people's beliefs because I will know that they may conform to their true beliefs and feelings.
