The Souls Of Black Folks by WEB Du BoisThe Souls of Black Folks by WEB Du Bois is a text published to explain a series of events to inform many people about the many ways inexplicable of African Americans. This story is about the advent of the strong African American race. This story is the explanation for many not easily describable discrepancies between African Americans and white Americans. It conveys the meaning of many black ways and reasoning. African Americans have obviously always been a sophisticated race, but in their own way. They were trampled by struggles over slavery and their identity was taken away to create what many other races would label as ignorance. The irrelevance of African culture in the Americas has taken away most of the meaning of life of the strong culture. It was lost in years of slavery. In this informative text he further explains how they are on the path to regaining all that was lost, but in a new land. One thing that is meant when he mentions double consciousness is how one wants to be both African and American and be treated like a Negro while having similar opportunities to Americans. This is found in chapter 1 and paragraph 4. A different way he describes double consciousness is the way a person [such as a black individual] can look at himself through the eyes of others. This is found in Chapter 1 paragraph 3. Looking at oneself with the eyes of many while remaining looking with the eyes that he achieves. The way a black person can change their ways for each other because of humanity's point of view. While remaining himself, he has two points of view, two ways of thinking and two ways of doing. Their reasons, the one that contains self-consciousness, is because he reasons with himself and with the world and... middle of paper ... ...black people. Since Washington is a person of color, he shouldn't create something that goes against himself. But this is one of the many negative aspects of the double consciousness that black holds. By trying to please another to please themselves, they also harm themselves. To conclude, this was an extremely successful attempt to try to explain the lifestyle of this race. I couldn't really say we because I haven't encountered these discrepancies. Nowadays, many people take credit for things they haven't witnessed firsthand. Reading this really opened my mind to things that have had an effect on me, my family, my friends, and my surroundings. This also explains the reasoning behind the distribution of race, ethnicity, religion, law, etc. in the southern states. It's something I can relate to.
