It has become obvious that some people cannot drive without feeling some form of anger towards other drivers. These people are usually patient and kind outside their vehicles; but as soon as they start the car, a strange phenomenon begins: road rage. How can people of kind nature experience road rage? Is there something about riding that makes people tick? Some doctors and psychologists have found answers to this problem, and some answers are quite shocking. People around other drivers became more aggressive, territorial and mean. It happens every day. One person might be driving within the speed limit, but another car behind gets frustrated, gets too close like it's about to crash, and then speeds up while honking like a maniac. Some people who do not have temperamental problems admit to losing control while driving. “For some road rages, it's a need for control, to counteract other drivers who they feel are violating their proxemic space, or their need to own their lane or their part of the road. For others, it is uncontrolled anger and aggression. It's hormone-based, primitive, small-brained thinking that brings with it a lack of emotional intelligence or a need to dominate someone else and their unshareable space. Add the uncontrolled ego, the need for superiority, the narcissistic pride: my vehicle is greater than yours.” This is quoted by Dr. Steve Albrecht who wrote the article The Psychology of Road Rage. According to Dr. Steve Albrecht, it appears that some people have road rage because they feel like they own the road and don't let anyone get in their way. When they do this, they are seen as a violation of the person's space. There is also shocking news coming from Dr. Emil Coccaro, in the article 'Road Rage' gets a medical diagnosis......half of the paper..... .affecting emotions and actions. Another way to help with road rage would be to set a good example on the road with children so that they are less likely to have road rage problems themselves. Children usually copy the way their parents are, and if they are calm on the road there is a good chance that the children will too when it is their turn to drive. It seems that road rage is a mix of nature and nurture. It can be a psychological reason or the way you were raised. Road rage should be noticed more than it is today so that people can do something about this growing problem. If someone knows they have a problem with road rage, they should go to a professional so they can find out why it happens so often when it shouldn't be; or even use the techniques mentioned before. If more attention was paid to road rage and its dangers, many more lives could be saved.
