Gilda's Club offers a place of support and networking for those who have or are affected by cancer. As a Junior Ambassador, I helped publicize and raise awareness in the community about the resources offered by Gilda's Club, hosting a table at fairs and raising funds for our annual spring benefit luncheon. My experience further strengthened my decision to pursue pharmacy because cancer patients of all ages held their pharmacists in high regard. Their pharmacists gave them hope. As part of MAS, our youth group helped dispel myths and stereotypes about Muslims through our interfaith dinner in the month of Ramadan. We invited fathers, pastors, rabbis and imams and asked our local police forces to join. The dinner featured good conversation with even better food, and people left knowing more and feeling more comfortable fighting negative preconceptions of Islam. Having these honest conversations, regardless of the topic, dispels myths that allow for a more personal connection and better understanding for both parties.
