I thought having to go through four steps when writing an essay was difficult; this year, four steps barely get you to the first draft of your essay. Apparently, the challenges faced so far for English 110 exceed those of any other English class. I always thought that writing an essay was easy, that I could just write whatever came to mind, give it a title, and call it good; boy, was I wrong. In English 110, I have to add extensive detail, thoughts, considerations, effort, and research to my writing. Plus, now I have to follow the entire writing process from start to finish. In previous English classes, I had only been taught how to make a square for a planning page, three drafts, one self-edit, and one peer-edit; in English 110, I learned to add a brainstorm, a cluster, an informal and formal outline, and a teacher modification on top of the steps I had already learned. I also paid a lot more attention to detail in this class. From what I had previously understood, the grammar and usage were simply spelling and punctuation errors that were underused guidelines and given very little attention. I am now aware of the deadly sins of essay writing and what a huge concept they really are. In conclusion to the examples above, English 110 is by far the most boring and time-consuming English course I have ever taken.
