Online shopping is becoming increasingly popular among Canadians. For retailers, the implications are considerable. New strategies to attract customers are being implemented by retailers who integrate e-commerce into their "traditional" retail operations. While retailers benefit from e-commerce business, they face ongoing problems associated with using e-commerce technology. Technology issues, security concerns, and a rapidly growing industry are some of the challenges retailers face in the e-commerce market. Retailers use e-commerce to improve their businesses. Statistics Canada said e-commerce sales in 2005 were C$39.2 billion. (Economist Intelligence Unit, 2006) The retail industry has recognized the significant benefits to be realized and is responding by offering products online with the ability to have customers pick up products in their retail stores. Their hope is that once the customer is in the store they will make impulse purchases and this seems to be working as the Economist Intelligence Unit article states that numerous retail studies show that consumers have spent more with retailers who can offer them the opportunity to visit the store to get their product. Using this approach gives retailers the means to enhance their existing businesses with e-commerce services. Information security continues to be the main reason why more and more customers don't shop online. A survey of 688 people showed that the problem is twofold. Some of those surveyed, 42%, said fear about the security of their credit cards is the reason they haven't made online purchases, while another 36% said they are worried about the release of private information on. .. . half of the card ......er market.Works CitedChain Store Age.
