I believe that teaching is one of the most important careers you can have, granted there are many other jobs that come to mind that are more important, but they all started with education. Without education, society is left with nothing. However, teaching is not just about providing students with information, but also about building critical thinking, communication, showing their creative side, and pushing them to embrace information to achieve higher standards. I think education is really the foundation. Critical thinking is a strong and powerful way of using the brain, it is used by millions of people every day, some without even knowing they are using it. Critical thinking according to Diane Halpern as “The use of those cognitive skills or strategies that increase the probability of a desirable outcome…thinking in a purposeful, reasoned, goal-directed manner – the kind of thinking involved in problem solving, in formulating inferences, calculating probabilities, and making decisions when the thinker uses thoughtful and effective skills for the particular context and type of thinking task is sometimes called directed thinking because it focuses on a desired outcome. I think critical thinking is important in every aspect of education, but I think it is used more in the field of social studies, where the student has to make a decision based on primary and secondary sources to draw from after watching a video about the story students would form an opinion Through the use of critical thinking questions, such as how the information relates to the knowledge the class has already learned about the topic, how could the new. inform... middle of paper... I believe that through the use of critical thinking, communication with students and parents and demonstration of the creative side of learning through collaboration between colleagues would be improved. I know from my previous experience in the classroom as a substitute that without collaboration students are at a disadvantage. One memory that stands out the most when talking about collaboration is when I was substituting for an ECE teacher in a regular learning classroom, while the teacher assigned homework to the rest of the students, I was working one on one with an ECE student who needed the additional help to carry out your task. The teacher and I collaborated on the questions the student had left to complete before moving on to homework. Through the use of collaboration the student was able to complete their assignment and perform the same task as the rest of the class.
