A survey I conducted of students and teachers revealed that seventy-nine percent of them regularly listen to music while working. This indicated that other people besides me indulged in listening to music while studying. Music has the ability to calm, leading to more conscientious study, elevating mood, motivating one to stay focused and study for longer periods of time. Many websites and articles I found show and prove that music in general can help with stress, anxiety, vision, speech, memory, sleep and depression. A study conducted shows that students often listen to music while studying to make the process less painful and, in some cases, because they believe that music will help them learn. The effects of listening to music while studying, however, are varied and depend on the type of music you listen to and the degree of distraction.
