Stereotypes about women and the mediaThe media often shows people in an excessively simple way, giving them an inaccurate idea of what and how a person should behave based on their gender, this it's called gender stereotyping. Gender, according to John J. Macionis in his 11th edition book Sociology, states that gender refers to the personal traits and social positions that members of a society attach to being women or men. This will lead to the creation of gender stereotypes within society itself. Gender stereotypes present a conventionally standardized conception or image regarding the typical social roles of male and female both at a domestic and social level or beliefs about an individual characteristic and social behavior considered appropriate to one's gender. This will evoke inequality between the two genders, male and female. According to John J. Macionis in his 11th edition book of Sociology, he stated that gender inequality is the unequal distribution of wealth, power and privilege between men and women. Throughout the world, women generally have lower status and power than males. This may be called gender stratification, although it is sometimes referred to as gender inequality, sexism, patriarchy, and female disadvantage (Chafetz, 1990). The media seemed to emphasize gender inequality and stereotypes, especially about women, which had a great impression on society and also had different effects on their lives. Inequality and stereotypes towards women occur because people tend to immerse themselves in the images they see in the media and that will also create imagination in their mind about how they should behave and present themselves to society. A company itself had created a… paper medium… the work done by hairdressers, makeup artists and others to make a person look like a star. I believe the media has finished stereotyping women as weak, vulnerable and overly dependent on men. Women, somehow, have their own opinion and are able to stand on their own, but the emphasis placed by the media has printed images of weak women in the minds of society. However, the media has also made women harm themselves just to be almost equal to the images portrayed in the media by going under the knife and risking their precious life. Women should not be obsessed with beauty because it will fade sooner or later. It's something inevitable and getting older is just another phase of life that we can't escape from. People should be aware of stereotypes about women in the media because they will basically lead to inequality among women.
