To God belongs the East and the West, wherever you look there is the face of God. Quran 2:115 Islam has given the world some of the most beautiful things: geometry, poetry, art and architecture. From the early 6th century to the present day, Islam has brought innovations in mathematics, literature, and art. Throughout its history, Islamic art has been continually evolving. Creating new and interesting ways to not only look at the world but also represent God in all his glory. Islam originated in the Middle East, but their vast empire slowly grew to incorporate Spain, North Africa, and India. As Muslims slowly moved westward, Islam also did the same and with it brought innovation in art and architecture. Although the people who practiced this religion were different, its core values remained the same, and this is best seen in their architecture. Whether it is the great mosque of Cordoba, Spain, or the Gun bad-i Qabus monument in northeastern Iran, the overall aesthetic of the Islamic tradition is faithfully represented. Similarities between Eastern and Western Islamic architecture are seen in the arches used in their mosques and monuments, carved stonework, and domes incorporated into the structure. The geometric and floral wavy patterns are seen in both the East and the West, giving all walks of life the infinite feeling of God and a higher being. The innovative style of the Islamic artist has given way to immediately recognizable styles. The passion for elaborate decorations can be found in both parts of the Islamic world. The regional influence on architecture changes as you cross from east to west, but the central principles remain the same. The artistic way in which God is represented. Throughout its history Islam has spread throughout the world creating a coherent artistic heritage, paving the way for similar and yet very different architecture. Distinctive floral, geometric and calligraphic motifs unite these structures from east to west, but it is precisely the difference that makes them unique in their part of the world. The endless repetition of geometric and floral patterns is breathtaking, whether enjoyed in Iran or Spain. Islamic art is shared throughout the world. The beauty of Islamic architecture transcends time and space. The unique qualities of Islam have been expressed over time by artisans in a powerful and intricate manor. Although most of these wonderful mosques and monuments were created more than a thousand years ago, we still look in awe at their beauty today.
