However, there are several ideas promoted by these three great men that are now rejected by society. For example, Socrates and Plato despised democracy. They taught that democracies can start out orderly, but then class warfare ensues and the poor attack the rich, leading to disorder. Then a tyrant bursts in and promises security. For Socrates and Plato, democracy meant rule by the masses. Their ideal form of democracy is called a political system. Today, most Westerners are in favor of democracy, even though most of them live in democratic republics. Some Westerners may see the dangers of democracy in the current fad of wealth redistribution, but all in all, the ideas of Socrates and Plato haven't made the cut. Plato also believed in classical republicanism. As mentioned above, the majority of Westerners care about the majority of Westerners. However, it should be recognized that there is a large group that is more concerned with minority rights. Especially today, the conflict between classical republicanism and individual rights is quite evident in the United States of America. Where do civil rights violate civil liberties? How can the government protect a certain group of people?
