Graphco, Inc., a subsidiary of a tobacco company, embroiled in controversy over the promotion of its products to children, had requested a ten million dollar loan. Elaine had disapproved of the loan, which some believed was the right course of action. However, there were others in the bank who felt this was the wrong course of action. If Elaine had decided to approve the loan and Graphco had offered to pay an additional point, the bank could have made significant profits. The benefit of this decision is purely individual. Elaine made a choice based on her personal morals. I believe that by deciding to disapprove this loan, the bank lost a customer who could have been financially rewarding. Choosing to disapprove this loan, in my opinion, was not the best business decision. Faced with the decision to approve or disapprove a loan for a Canadian company that imports cigars from Cuba. Elaine, once again, has decided to disapprove this loan.
